KIIT International MUN-2017 Concluded
The fifth edition of KIIT International Model United Nations Conference-2017 from 27th to 29th October, 2017 was concluded on Sunday. It was inaugurated with a delightful presence of 1800 delegates from the nation and across the border. The theme of the Inaugural Session was 'Rights of the Indigenous people'.
Eminent personalities including Sergio Arispe Barrientos, Ambassador Designate of Bolivia to India and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, eminent Indian film-maker and writer were the chief guest and guest of eminence on the inaugural session while, Punya Prasun Bajpai, eminent Journalist; Kamal Singh, Executive Director, UN Global Compact Network, India and R. S. Prasanna, acclaimed Indian Film Director were the guests of valedictory session.
Mr. Sergio in his speech said, "Across the ages, the indigenous people are languishing under suppression by capitalist states. Moreover, a wide gap is often apparent between the indigenous and elite sections of the society. It should be abridged at first hand; otherwise the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) of UN can't be achieved".
In the valedictory session Mr. Bajpai puts light on the UN model. He said, students should critically analyze the working style of UN which is being handicapped by a handful of nations over the years. Appreciating the KIIT International MUN-2017, Mr. Bajpai said, "in organizing this KIIT International MUN-2017 the student delegates demonstrated an exemplary United Nations Model i.e. what the UN ought to be and how should it run? As the world is getting smaller day by day, we should have adequate facts so that we would be able to counter others comfortably ", he added. Expressing his pleasure, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS said, it should be observed in a massive scale. Shrirang Ketkar, the Secretary General of KIIT International MUN 2017, Shankha Das, Director General also spoke on the occasion.
Among others Prof. Hrushikesha Mohanty, Vice Chancellor; Prof. Ramababu Kodali, Pro-Vice Chancellor; Prof Sasmita Samanta, Registrar and Dr. Sucheta Priyabadini, Director, Students Services, KIIT University were present and spoke on the occasion. Aritra Mondol, Deputy Secretary General; Pratyush Malviya, Charg'e d'affaires were also present on the occasion. Prizes were distributed by esteemed guests to outstanding achievers in different categories of KIIT International MUN -2017.
As many as 18 international committees were made and discussion on various global issues was held during three day MUN session. Student’s representatives from Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Berlin, Nepal and Geneva were participated in the KIIT international MUN. More than 400 delegates from 30 universities and schools across India were joined the MUN
The winner of Best Delegate and Best Editor award got Rs. 12000, while the High Commendation and Best Journalist got Rs.7, 000, Best Photographer got Rs. 5,000 and Special Mention got Rs. 4000. Best Delegate of International Conglomeration on Security of Syria (ICSOS) got Rs. 15,000, while High Commendation got Rs. 10,000 and Special Mention was Rs. 5,000.
