NABARD, Odisha, Bhubaneswar State Level Debriefing Program on Water Campaign -2017
NABARD launched a major Water Campaign on 22 nd March 2017, on the occasion of
World Water Day. Around 1,00,000 villages in vulnerable/ water stressed areas and
specifically in areas where the ground water is over exploited, across the country
were targeted under the campaign in 2017. The campaign focused on creating
awareness among the rural community about the methods of water conservation,
preservation and its efficient utilization at various levels using the modern
technologies like micro irrigation (more crop per drop), traditional water
management practices, adopting improved package of agronomic practices, etc.
NABARD, Odisha R.O., Bhubaneswar undertook a massive Water Conservation
Campaign covering 5561 villages in most vulnerable/water stressed areas in 10
districts of Odisha namely Kalahandi, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada,
Malkangiri,Bolangir,Kandhamal,Mayurbhanj,Keonjhar, Gajapati with an objective to
create mass awareness about the methods of effective conservation/ preservation
and efficient use of water through available technologies by the rural community.
A State Level debriefing program was organized on 25 October 2017 at
NABARD Regional Office, Bhubaneswar to mainstream the action plans of the
campaign with that of development plans of various departments of State Govt.,
Banks, and Corporates etc.
Shri Pradeep Kumar Jena, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Water Resources
of Government of Odisha graced the occasion as Chief Guest. He appreciated the
efforts of NABARD for undertaking such a campaign and highlighted upon the
importance of judicious use of water and expected that the campaign should be of a
continuous nature. He also advised that from next year onwards NABARD and State
Government should work together to make the campaign a success.
Dr. K.C.Panigrahi, CGM, NABARD, Odisha Regional Office, Bhubaneswar outlined
the steps taken in implementation of Water campaign in the State of Odisha and
briefed about the outcome of such efforts. He indicated that based on vulnerability
assessment report of Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA) i.e.
Rain fed Area Priority Index (RAPI), 10 most vulnerable/ rainfed/ water scarcity
districts of Odisha were covered and the campaign was successful in creating
awareness among the masses.
The district-wise outcome reports and action plans were presented in the meeting
and the various Stakeholders shared their experience and learnings.
