FICCI’s EM-Power 3 rd Edition 32 lakh people to get electricity by 2018
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government has a mission to provide electricity to 1 crore people. Already 68 lakh people have given electricity. We have decided to provide electricity connection to rest of 32 lakh people by 2018 end, said energy minister Mr. Prafulla Mallick. Inaugurating the FICCI’s EM-Power conference, 3 rd edition here, He said that, Odisha was the first state which started power sector reform in 1995. From then to 2014, Centre did not provide any kind of support to Odisha. As a result of that Odisha failed to get desired result from the reform. He added. Mr. Mallick said that, “Electricity demand of the state is 4200 MW. Odisha manages to get 3500 MW. Still there is gap. To fill up that gap, we have to produce electricity from available different sources. Hydro electricity sector has huge opportunity. We have to develop our small hydro projects to provide adequate electricity to the people of the state.”Odisha can produce 200 MW electricity from small hydro projects. He said. Mr. Subhrakanta Panda, Chairman, FICCI Odisha state chapter said that, “As first state of the country Odisha had started power sector reform. During these last 20-22 years state also immensely benefited out of that reform. In this conference stakeholder of power sector will get the
opportunity about various challenges of power sector. They also have to provide their valuable advice for the betterment of this sector. There are few technical session, where experts will discuss about critical aspect of this sector.”Other dignitaries present at the event are MR. U N Behera, Chairman,
OERC, Mr. Vishal Kumar Dev, CMD, OHPC, Mr. Sadiq Alam, CEO, SESU
