9th Foundation Day of the Central University of Orissa on 29 August, 2017
The 9 th Foundation Day of the Central University of Orissa will be celebrated on 29
August, 2017 at its main campus at Sunabeda. On this auspicious occasion Prof. Harish
Trivedi, former Professor of English, University of Delhi, distinguished critic, academic
and translator shall deliver the 9 th Foundation Day Lecture on “The Place of Humanities in
Higher Education”. Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University
shall hoist the University flag and deliver the inaugural address. He convey his greetings
to all the members of CUO family and stakeholders and extends his thanks for all round
support towards the development of the University. He said “the Foundation day is a
reminder towards renewal of our commitment to the educational upliftment of the
region”. He has thanked the state and central government for all-round support the
university has been receiving.
Prof. Harish Trivedi, former Professor of English at the University of Delhi, was visiting
professor at the universities of Chicago and London, and has lectured at various
universities in the USA, Canada, South America, the UK, Europe, China, Japan, South-
East Asia and Australia. He was Chairperson of the Indian Association for Commonwealth
Literature and Language Studies (2005-- 2014) and Vice-President of the Comparative
Literature Association of India (2007-- 2015).
The University has had may achievement to his credit in the last two year under the
leader ship of Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, the Vice-Chancellor of CUO, with regard to
infrastructure development, entrance examination in 22 centre, admission, University
ordinances, administration, shifting of students to the new hostel of the campus which
state of the art facilities, establishment of computer centres and internet connectivity,
signing of the MoU with HAL and COATS, the later in the field of tribal studies , 24 hrs
ambulance service, counselling system , students’ welfare, establishment of NSS and
establishment of different cultural clubs in the University. With the completion of 8
years, the University proved itself as one of the best University in higher education of
the State as per the NIRF ranking. In the near future with the help of an impressive
grants from the UGC and MHRD the University is going to undertake major
infrastructural development including auditorium, administrative block, shopping centre,
student cafeteria, staff quarters and faculty quarters and other amenities.
