Bhubaneswar, Dt. 29.8.2017-Arts education has an important part to play in an ability-driven education system. It would fuel the imagination of students and develop their creativity. It would
enable them to create new ideas and products. As the creation of art forms is not limited
to students who are artistically talented, students from various disciplines can be
benefitted from their participation in the arts as well. After all, arts would help to
enhance the school environment as one of discovery and learning said Governor, Dr.
S.C. Jamir. Gracing Governor’s Trophy Award Ceremony- 2017 at Rabindra Mandap,
organised by Department of Culture in collaboration with Odisha Sangeet Natak
Akademi and Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi, Governor said creativity will be the core of our
economic life and a crucial ingredient to enhance the competitiveness of our nation. We
need creative persons in every field. The importance of nurturing an environment of
creativity in our schools cannot be over-emphasized. Enthusiasm and interest promise
well for arts education in our schools as efforts and initiatives would have a great impact
on our students and their attitudes towards the art forms. Odisha is a land of rich cultural heritage. It is also a land of fascinating art, craft, and handloom that enthral viewers world over. Here one would witness rural craftsmen, weavers and artists carving beautiful creations in different mediums. Patta paintings and
tribal art have their own identity. The state has a distinction for its exquisite silver filigree
and appliqué work. Sand art is gaining global acclaim. In performing art, Odissi music,
dance and song have a long antiquity and the land boasts of many outstanding artists
and gurus who have taken the art to great heights, Governor remarked.
Appreciating the endeavour Governor said, this will brings together budding
talents of the state to express their creativity in different art forms like music, dance and
song and visual art. The event would give our young an opportunity to gain varied
experiences; it would encourage them to explore their imagination, stimulate their
creativity and promote self-expression.

Secretary, Culture, Raghunath Mohapatra, President, Lalit Kala Akademi, Trupti Das,
President, Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi, Amarendra Kumar Patnaik, Director,
Culture, Pradip Kumar Mishra, Secretary, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Tarakant Parida,
Secretary, Lalit Kala Akademi among others spoke on the occasion. 1 st Lady of Odisha
Alemla Jamir was present in the function. Governor’s Trophy for the year 2016-17 were
distributed to successful competitors in music, dance, song and visual art.
