CELEBRATION OF WORLD KITCHEN GARDEN DAY

Kitchen Gardeners’ Association (KGA), Bhubaneswar celebrated World Kitchen Garden Day (WKD)
on celebration started  with a mass rally of about 70 kitchen gardeners with placards in their
hand covering 5 kms to create awareness on organic kitchen gardening both in rural and urban
areas and gathered in sahid nagar sanskrutik Samiti(Bishnu Mandir) and shared their experience on city farming. The meeting on this occasion started at 10 am by lighting of the lamps by the chief guest and all other dignitaries . Sri B.M. Patnaik Advisor, KGA introduced guests and Sri Bijoy ch Jena Ex. Chairman SESU and Trustee KGA presided over the meeting and Shri M Khillar, Managing Trustee spoke on the role of Kitchen Gardeners Association. Dr. Gagan Ku Dhal, IAS, Agriculture Production Commissioner, Govt of Odisha in his address stressed the need of organic kitchen garden and promised all out support to KGA. The guests of honour on this occasion Dr.Krushna Chandra Panigrahi, CGM, NABARD, Shri Samarendra Sahu, IES, CEO, IED, Shri Niranjan Sahoo, IAS, Director,Industries, Dr. Gagnesh Sharma, Regional Director, RCOF and Dr. Parshuram Dhal discussed the role of KGA from different angles and assured to promote this movement. In the technical session Dr. Sushant Ku Jata, ICAR-CTCRI, a practitioner had a ppt on Smart way of using overflow water for Roof Top Kitchen Garden through micro-irrigation and Narasingha Panigrahi, Director, SGRecycleing BBSR on Smart way of using organic domestic waste for Roof Top Kitchen Garden. There after the city farmers present shared their experiences and problems faced during implementation and were redressed by the experts and academics in the field.
A special session on COSMIC FARMING was introduced by sri P.K.Swain Director Planning where all the farmers were empowered to produce healthy and bumper crop through vedic science. All the visitors enjoyed a Special Curry and pickles prepared instantly out of the home grown organic vegetables brought by the city farmers.Sri Ekadasi Nandi Trustee KGA proposed a vote of thanks to all. An Exhibition on this occasion was inaugurated by chief guest in which stalls were put up by Central horticulture Experimentation Station, Central Tuber Crop Research Institute, Regional Centre for Organic Farming, Directorate of Horticulture, (Medicinal plants)
Ekamrabana, HelpAge India and many other individual enterprisers with display of home
grown organic vegetables, plants, seeds and hand made crafts and eatables. In spite of
heavy rain around 400 farmers both from rural & urban area visited the stalls and made transaction too.
